Welcome!

With more than 30 years experience working as in-house counsel and in private practice for the likes of artists, writers, entrepreneurs, investors, startups and established businesses, I’m looking forward to working with you. I’ve dealt with folks that develop, license and sell software programs, artwork, consumer products, literature, computers, and production equipment. Some of them epitomized old-world craftsmanship while others used traditional or high tech manufacturing techniques. They covered a gamut of products from clothing and accessories to sophisticated scientific, industrial and power utility equipment. Many were multinationals, others used foreign distributors, while still more were US operations with alliance partners to leverage distribution channels. I welcome the chance to work with you and offer you an economical and personalized alternative to larger firms.

So how am I different?

More than a patent attorney – more than a business attorney: While I’m a patent attorney, I’ve spent more time acting as a business lawyer - in my last role I was Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary for a multi-million dollar publicly-held software company. So I can deal comfortably with both business matters and intellectual property matters.

I speak your language: Throughout my career I’ve had to explain legal concepts in simple, understandable ways.

Efficiency and effectiveness: I believe in a “1 client – 1 attorney” practice. What this means is that I bill you for the work done. You will never be billed for work done by anyone other than me unless you specifically agree in advance that I can involve that other attorney or expert. I do not bill for office staff time.

Confidence in Cost: While I believe my hourly rate is more than competitive, I’m happy to quote a guaranteed fee or a “not to exceed” fee when circumstances permit.
